A Study in Creativity: Dubai

If you were going to design the shopping capital of the world, your first choice probably would not be a location smack dab in the middle of a desert! Yet, Dubai is all that and so much more, thanks to the forward, and you might say, creative thinking of its leaders. Here are just a few things that make Dubai probably the most creative location on the planet.

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Did we mention Dubai is in the middle of a desert? Temperatures in Dubai regularly top 120, which means without some very creative design when it comes to air conditioning, the buildings would probably melt into puddles. Extremely tall buildings in the city employ multiple pumps on their vertical air conditioning systems. Air conditioning is a vital factor in the city with even the bus stops being contained and air conditioned.

Big, Bigger and Biggest

Whether you are talking about the aquarium in the mall or the tallest building in the world, you will be discussing Dubai. You might say the city has plans to be the absolute biggest at everything.

  • Dubai mall aquarium holds 2.64 Million gallons of water
  • 20% of all the world’s cranes are operating in Dubai
  • Burj Khalifa is 163 stories tall – if your wondering, its the tallest building in the world.
  • Largest indoor mall in the world
  • Biggest indoor ski slope (yes, you can ski under a roof)
  • Police officers drive Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Aston Martins.

A City Inside

As if there were not enough, major attractions in Dubai, there are plans in the works to build a city within the city. If it comes to pass, visitors will be able to walk air conditioned streets. Yes, you read that correctly. Tentatively named mall of the world this domed structure will encompass 48 million square feet and house an 8 million square foot mall, over 20,000 hotel rooms, massive theme park and much more.

In addition to the shopping and tourist amenities, the city within a city will also feature a 3 million square foot wellness center in hopes of serving thousands if not millions of medical tourists each year.

Will the powers that be manage to pull off this huge undertaking? If it were anywhere else in the world, you could be skeptical, but all you have to do is look at how massively far this city has come in two decades or less. Creative and futuristic thinking is what has created the city what you see today and will continue to shape the area into a major player in world tourism.

Final Thoughts

Dubai offers more than enough to see and do today, whether you want to enjoy all the modern amenities of the city or strike out for a skydiving, scuba diving or dune busting adventure. Today the city is a creative marvel, and that only looks to grow in the coming years.
